How do you raise your two way radio customers satisfaction?  For Harry Deadwyler, President of Communication Specialists, Inc. in Columbia, SC, it was by being informed of his base station failures before his customers even knew.  With over 30 channels of trunked radio systems spread across South Carolina's capital city (and then some), there could be the feeling of being "behind the curve" when some of his two way customers would complain about their radios not working.  With large communication contracts on the line, any downtime could be costly.

After installing Hark's PPM-8 RF Power Monitors at all of his sites, Deadwyler and his staff are the first to know and are already in the process of fixing the problem before there is the first call from a customer.  By tying the PPM-8 to Hark's automated monitoring service, Harry and his staff get email and text messages the minute there is a problem at a site.

Power Sensor Installed

An off the shelf power sensor is used to detect the transmitter power.  They can be located anywhere it is convenient, usually at the back of the transmitter.

Dual Channel Alarm Adapter Installed

The optional Dual Channel Alarm Adapter can be used to convey the channel failure to the trunking controller.  There are two models, one that uses an RDD signal to imitate an unsquelched channel and the other is a contact closure for an actual failure input.  Which one is used is based on the firmware version of the controller.
